This is a crime of taking something by force by coercion of fear, typically. Rather than taking an object with the intent to return it, robbery comes with the intent of permanently depriving another of their property.
Carjacking
Even vehicles that have advanced alarm systems can be broken into. Carjacking is the crime of stealing any type of vehicle. Stealing a vehicle with an individual inside is considered armed assault.
Petty Theft
Petty theft, as opposed to grand theft, is a type of stealing that involves a lesser amount of money (typically less than $1,000).
Shoplifting
This involves stealing property that was not paid for from a retail store. This is actually considered to be the most common type of property-related crime in the United States.
