Florida Penalties for a Stop Sign Violation

If you are ticketed for running a stop sign in Florida, you face the following penalties:

• 3 points on your driving record
• Civil traffic fee of $179

Once you receive a ticket, you have 30 days to pay the ticket (which means you are admitting guilt and the points WILL be added to your driving record), attend driver improvement school, or go to court to contest the ticket.

Keep in mind that in Florida, once you accumulate 12 points within 12 months, your driver’s license will be suspended for 30 days. If you accumulate 18 points in an 18 month period, your license will be suspended for 3 months, and if you accumulate 24 points in a 36 month period, your license will be suspended for one year.
